Delay in payment of Money Orders at Branch Offices

It has come to the notice of this office that sufficient amount of cash is not being supplied to the Branch Offices for payment of OAP Money Orders, which resulted in public complaints. Further, Branch Postmasters are not allowed to keep money for Money Order liabilities for payment of Money Orders. All Sub Postmasters are hereby instructed to supply funds for payment of Money Orders sufficiently to avoid public complaints. The attention of the SPMs is invited to rule 136(2) of Book of BO rules in which the Branch Postmasters can retain cash for Money Orders that can be paid before the receipt of next remittance. Therefore the Sub Postmasters may allow retention of cash for Money Orders for one or two days for effecting Money Order payments. For this, ECB memo may be prepared for BO Balance showing the Money Order liability and submitted to Head Office.
