Sub : Booking of articles containing
prohibited items – instruction - reg
The Asst.
Postmaster General (M&E), Tamilnadu Circle, Chennai vide his letter
no.ML/SP-01/2012 dated 12.06.12, communicated vide RO, Coimbatore letter
no.BD/20305/SP Dlgs VI dated 14.06.2012 that the Assistant Manager, Spicejet
Ltd., reported to his office that Post Office mails containing liquid and
powder items are often being received by Airline Authorities, which cannot be
subjected to physical checks. Hence the Speed bags containing such articles are
offloaded by Airline Authorities.
Rules
relating to articles prohibited for booking through Post Offices or other
booking offices of the Department are contained chapter in V of the Indian Post
Office Act, 1898 and Section IV of Post Office Guide Part I. Instruction in
this regard have also been issued from time to time, in this regard by
Directorate.
All SPMs /
APMs should guide the counter PA about the afore said rules and take more care while booking such
articles. It may be ensured that no articles, which contains explosives,
compressed liquefied gas, flammable liquid or solid substance, oxidizing
substances, poisonous and infectious substance, radioactive material,
corrosives and other miscellaneous dangerous goods is not booked for carriage
by air.
It may also
be ensured that all categories of parcel are accompanied by a declaration from
the customer that the article booked does not contain any item prohibited under
Indian Post Office Act 1898 / Post Office Guide Part I / Aircraft (Carriage of
Dangerous Goods) Rules, 2003 or any other item prohibited for carriage by air.
This
may be brought to the notice of all concerned under acquittance.
